Today we finally entered Lake Champlain proper. The Crown Point Bridge appears as a gateway to the lake.
We dropped anchor in Partridge Cove, a very small and lovely cove on the NY side. There is room for maybe five boats. Stayed a few hours for lunch and then headed across the lake to Vermont. We went up Otter Creek 8 mi to the town of Vergennes. Situated at the head of the navigational end of the creek, this is the oldest incorporated town in Vermont.
This was also the site of Thomas MacDonough's shipyard during the War of 1812. It was here that the American fleet was built including the USS Saratoga.
