Today we finally entered Lake Champlain proper. The Crown Point Bridge appears as a gateway to the lake. ![]()
We dropped anchor in Partridge Cove, a very small and lovely cove on the NY side. There is room for maybe five boats. Stayed a few hours for lunch and then headed across the lake to Vermont. We went up Otter Creek 8 mi to the town of Vergennes. Situated at the head of the navigational end of the creek, this is the oldest incorporated town in Vermont. ![]()
This was also the site of Thomas MacDonough's shipyard during the War of 1812. It was here that the American fleet was built including the USS Saratoga.
