Chesapeake City to Cape May, NJ

Left Chesapeake City at 0900 to try and ride the current out to and down Delaware Bay. Had mixed success....8.5 kts in the canal and then 6 kts down the Bay until the current changed and then we had 9 kts. Delaware Bay was as calm as a lake...very unusual. We saw 12 Naval Academy YP boats headed up the Bay back to Annapolis.

The Cape May Canal is a shortcut to the Atlantic Ocean and also the entrance to Cape May harbor. For south Jersey, it was a pleasant and idyllic surprise. We anchored just off the Coast Guard station in Cape May. Apparently it is also their boot camp as we heard a constant stream of "yes, Sir" and "no sir".

Due to a cruel geographic trick, Compass Rose is now farther south than she was in Annapolis!! Cape May latitude is 37 deg 57 min while Whitehall Bay is 38 deg 59 min. Nevermind what we said about passing the Sassafras River...
